attaching flies to flasher

When you guys say "paddle" are you referring to a spin doctor or just a large flasher. Also for the line between "paddle" and fly is fluorocarbon needed for salmon? always thought they were not very line shy! Also what are some hot fly paddle color combos?

Another question on this topic. I have tried using flashers several times and i end up with a mess of tangled line every time. I was using 30 pound between flasher and fly. Is this happening because I need a heavier test line?

I don't think that's your problem.  The lbs test of the leader shouldn't matter. l'd bet either you have the flasher backwards or maybe dropping it down too fast on deployment.  Or it could be your swivels are bad.

If its tangling, like Bazooka said, you're likely dropping them too fast.  As for Fluoro vs Mono for the leader, i've always run fluoro just because either that's what was rigged from the manufacturer or I had fluro leader already when tying my own.   I do know guys run 50lb big game mono as their leaders with success.
