Although this is ice fishing time on Owasco, would like to put a thought out there. My son and I and a fishing buddy, as well as others, have been doing well on lakers through ice.  Most of the lakers are spitting out alwives when they hit the ice and when we open them up there are many more. A good number of them are more plump than in the past, and don't have that sunken head. Is it possible that the bait are cycling back? Between this anecdotal observation and the fact that smelt runs in Spring are increasing, could be a modest start to some type of recovery. If the bait is coming back the walleye that are left and the lakers( which stocking has been reduced) may feed on bait instead of rainbows and browns. Will be interesting to see what the, spring and summer catches looks like. Anyone else seeing more bait in lake?

Yes, we see massive bait balls are year round. The balance has finally shifted allowing the browns and rainbows to come back.

That sounds like real good news. Owasco is a wonderful lake and it would be great to see the browns and rainbows rebound.....
