Cross-waves?  Following waves? Head waves?

I think I prefer following but when in a bigger boat the waves cause a tug-of-war battle with the fish as they cause the boat to surge forward.  We actually had to pull lines and back down on a fish before to net it.

I'm curious to hear other's thoughts on this.

Vince summed it up real well. There is no single answer to that question. You really have to assess the given situation and do what you think best at that time with your existing capabilitiies. Wind and boat control do not co-exist well regardless of the body of water or boat size.

With Capn Vince's freighter, does it matter? In a smaller craft If I am going into it w/ one  other guy & I have pulled at least my dipsey lines for a big king, I swing the boat around and go with it & take the boat out of gear sometimes to land the fish.

I don't want the boat to blow over the top of the fish when its close to the boat.

Which ever way I'm going. I don't worry about it. I might throttle down

but I don't change direction or pull rods.
