I counted at least 40 dead ducks at the lock launch in the Oswego river. Shortage of food because of the hard water is my guess

There are over 20 dead ducks on the ice here at my house on Irondequoit bay.

Probably mostly mergansers, which are fish eaters. Everything being so locked up in ice left them no food source. Same thing happened on Lake Erie.

I spoke with some friends that live on I-bay and there are dead birds all over in front of their house including a few of the swans.

Gotta be something wrong with the environment someplace. Merganser starving all at once sounds odd..like not all die at the same time from lack of fish. Swans are algae eaters. Something needs to be investigated maybe a bit further just to be sure

Good article in the NY Outdoor News about the die-off. Not only are the birds starving but many are losing their water shedding ability which stresses them even further.
