tried some wee little ones about 2.5" long with no luck  I think they were #2 s

We've tried them a few times on Cayuga and Seneca. We were actually hoping to catch bigger LL Salmon on them. Never caught anything on them.

I'll let you in a little sectret. Try a squid off the planer boards. I don't run anything in front of it. The Browns like it. They like big flies too. Like the ones we run behind a dodger.

I run dodgers w flies on cayuga and owasco. Running smaller dodger an fly behind green dipsys near bottom closer to shore works well on lakers for me.

Hey captain jim, do use any added weight to the line when you use squids off planers?

I like one split shot to keep it running just under the surface.

Absolutely. Just like a streamer. For Browns make sure to run a leader of flourocarbon or other invisible line. Browns are notoriously line and hardware shy.
