External fairing blocks on thru hull transducers

Do the external fairing blocks used on some models of thru hull transducers add any significant performance benefits over those thru hull transducers without them?

All depends on the transducer.

If the transducer recommends one then there is a substantial improvement in performance.

 

The B60 through hull I had installed on my Penn Yan doesn't require a fairing.

By the way I just bought a used penn yan predator in great shape. What angle transducer should i order and where about do you think I should install it?

If I remember right, it is the 20° B60. Hank put mine between the pocket and the transmission on the port side.
