I PURCHASED A 2014 MERCURY OUTBOARD 9.9., 4 STROKE , LONG SHAFT ON APRIL 5TH. 2014, STILL IN SHIPPING BOX FROM BASS PRO. I NEEDED A SHORT SHAFT, ITS A LONG SHAFT. BRAND NEW , STILL IN BOX . I PAID $1997.00,  , LIST $2300. I WANT $1900.OO FIRM, INTERESTED CALL ME AT 315 -527-1224.TY

Based on price paid I'd say this is a base model 9.9 pull start and no power trim/tilt.

Just curious, when is it a bad thing to have a motor with a slightly longer shaft than you really need? I understand why it would be bad to have one that does not sit deep enough in the water, but is it really such a problem to have one that rides a little deeper than you really need?

When you are fishing really skinny water... (have caught salmon in 3fow)

Or if the motor is to do double duty on a small boat that is meant to plane off, a long shaft might not let the boat plane off due to too much drag.
