I have thrown large swim baits on castaic and lake casitas out in california. They get big responses from big fish. In california they have trout plants on most lakes and ponds in the area, the larger LB feed on these stocked trout. Never landed one on them but have had follows and fish flare their gills in the 8-14 range a few inches from your bait. RIDICULOUS!

I think they would do well on some of the smaller finger lakes, hemlock, canadice? Got to add that to my to do list this year for sure!

How it is justified in the bass fishign world is if it can win you money it will pay for itself. Im gonna get me some of the new Lucky Craft Real Californias for bass fishing, but I also want to see the action of them at trolling speed. How much more realistic can you get with these swimbaits? They have to work.
