Guys I have never spooled up a lead core rig how do you do it? I bought a 10 color lead core. Do you put mono backer and the 20 foot fluorocarbon leader?

Like mike said! We use all braid for backing, it allows you to run the boards farther from the boat. Mono once you get way out will drag back into other boards. We always use like a 8ft 40 pound mono section between the core and braid to hook the board to, braid will fail after some use in the board release. Sean

Like mentioned above, braid is the way to go.  You can fit more backing on with braid due to the generally smaller diameter.

Also depends on reel size and like I said its a preference thing .. I run braid backing with my coppers but mono with my cores with no problems whatsoever. .. But like hooked up said if your gonna use your 10 color rig to run it as 3 , 5 , or 7 color core to you need to put mono splicing in after each section and if you do go with braid backing put a piece of mono in after all your core before you go to your braid so you can attach to your planner board with out as much ware on the line...

I use all mono backing for stretch on ten core laker rod. Added insurance when dragging bottom. Make sure not to tie lead into knot, dacrons stronger alone
