If you are after Salmon you might be hard pressed to find them. With the cooler water temps you can long line for bows and cohos in 60-100 FOW. I usually don't have luck finding Kings until the first week of June or if you can locate some warmer water temps. It will be good to learn the ropes of fishing with your downrigger before the action gets real good (July-August) Just be careful on the water right now as it is frigid. I am going out for my first time of the year next week so I will give an update if we have any success.

cheers!

Went out on sunday from st. Cathrines. Not much luck for me.

End up with one laketrout on 170fow.

Caught on jigging :))

So probably its gonnatake a while for me to start catching on lake ontario :)

Also my boat having a speed of

3.7 - 4km/h on idle. Is that ok ? Or too fast?

I have most of my luck with Chinook undr 3 km.

Between 2-3 , 2 if using body baits or plugs

4km is not too fast for salmon, down speed is the more important factor so if you dont have a way to measure it you will just have to play with the speed as you go.

Before i used a speed probe we would go as fast as 4mph and still slay fish!

Will be keep trying :)

I guess if i launch the boat in Markham the same fishing techniques apply ? Its closer to my home - so i can spend more time on water ðŸ‘

Yap :)

I use that tecnique for lakers on simcoe.

You hang the jig 10fo of the buttom and put the rod in rod holder , boat motion more then enough to make fish interested , as soon as you see fish comes to investigate you start to reel in the line , i dont know why but lakers love to chase it , so you keep the speed fast but letting the fish to close in on it and boom !

Some days they will chase it all the way from 110ft to 20ft.

But you got to have a flasher or realtine scope on a side (like my elite 7 )

Thats there you keeping the eyes on

-----

Thats the pic frim last year.

There is fish on the buttom , and my jig on top (and more fish higher )

And on the right is the real time sonar (amplitude scope)

----

Catch ratio is im getting 4 lakers , while guys trolling getting one or two.

Dang man that's something new to try

So you have the motor shut off and you're just drifting in some turbid water ?

If the I pilot keeps you stationary and the weather is good then what imparts the motion on the jig for the fish to show interest ?
