Scotty downrigger booms in upright position

Does anyone use their Scotty booms in upright position for side planers ?

I am not sure the red slide that holds them upright would stand up to the pulling of a planer board.  They are not really designed to be used that way.

I'm in agreement, too bad that red plastic slide couldn't be re-machined out of SS.

No...no..never. I don't even know why they put that thing on there. The boom flops around and when It falls it CRASHES!...bye bye rigger ball if it's still on the cable!
