Traveling Man,

I had the same question a few years ago so I contacted EZ-Pass and they told me I had to go through the manned lanes at the toll and they ring up an extra axle on the charge.

Those expands lanes are setup that they can detect an additional set of axles. Will show up on your statement

When EZ pass was first introduced 15 years ago, you could not use it if you were towing, that changed 5-6 years ago and you can use it with a trailer in tow.

i've been using mine longer than that. My wife called once and they told her we could get one we could use while towing that would charge for the extra axle. But i have 2 trailers and one has two axles so i would need three passes for my truck. I just use the regular one.

I use my regular pass hauling my constuction trailer and I have seen the extra on my statement, but not always.  They do make mistakes on your bill...we have been over charged too!

I live on Grand Island, have a two-axle trailer, and use the EZ Pass lane all the time. I never saw any extra axle charge on my statement.... Granted, I usually use ONLY the Grand Island Tolls, and have a G.I. resident EZ Pass..... I'm wondering if it would be the same story if I were to use the Thruway to head down to Dunkirk, or over to Rochester......
