Team Diabolical made the long trip to Lake Ontario from Northern Michigan. We arrived the Saturday before the WHI, and pretty much fished every port East of Wilson at some point throughout the week. What an amazing fishery...from Wilson to 30 mile point was absolutely overrun with Brown and Lake Trout, the first day we boated over 60 fish before losing track. After filling our brown trout and lake trout quota for the year, we headed east in seach of warmer water and the elusive chinook. We found better numbers of salmon the further East week got, and eventually ended up fishing Rochester for much of the week. Knowing the ice cold water around Wilson was not likely to improve the Niagara Bar, we were prepared to make the 70 mile run down to I-Bay come Saturday in hopes putting 6 legal salmon in the boat. Unfortunately the water cooled off in Rochester, and king fishing slowed from 12 kings a trip, to 8 kings a trip, to only a handful of king bites in the morning. Back West we went.

WHI Saturday - We headed East to 30 mile point along with about 70 other tournament boats. The water had cooled off considerably; we took a solid diver bite on the first pass and missed a couple smaller ones on the board lines. After looking at the boat traffic, cool water temps, and lack of activity on other tournament boats, we headed North, 400FOW, the Abyss. The graph was absolutely loaded with fish and bait, unfortunately most of it was packed from 200' and down, and not receptive to anything we threw at them. Shortly after setting up offshore, we took two nice kings, one on a free slider and the other on a 150 copper. We picked away on a couple of 19" coho, an undersized king, and steelhead, but could not get any more legal kings to go.

Thanks again to the WHI staff, especially Kevin and Penny, for putting on another great event. We enjoyed the fishery, met some great people. See you next year.
