Well, I had 3 Toms at around 40 yards this morning and when I pulled the trigger the shell misfired. I was using new Winchester Longbeard 3 1/2" which i had patterned and killed a bird with a couple weeks ago. It sounded sort of like a dud firecracker. I checked the barrel and there was no stuck wad.  The end third of the shell case appeared somewhat melted. Very disappointing and I already sent notification to Winchester with lot number and a photo of the case and a dirty patch I ran through the barrel. I'm interested to see their response.

Kevin, The hype on these is going to be short lived.  Looked all for them.  Found them, bought them, and then shot them.  Extremely disappointed.  Back to Turkey thugs for me.

I have had good luck with the Hornday Hevi-Shot and the run of the mill remingtons. Those remingtons have account for a lot of dead turkeys.  Of course I like to go against the grain and use my little 20 ga.

You don't need anything special to kill a Turkey. Hell I have always used just a "Duck and Pheasant" load in 2 3/4".

Biggest bird I ever got was with 23/4 skeet shell.  At 5 yards the muzzle blast gets em.  I still say go with the right shell.  Back then I didn't know any better.

I never had an issue with the older Winchester super XX in 3" #5's. Perhaps the misfire was a fluke but after contacting hem by email about the misfire they have not gotten back to me. .

Winchester sent me a UPS label to mail back unused shells, box they came in and misfired shell. Said they would send a certificate for new shells. Doesn't get me the missed tom but at least they back their product and are investigating.

I bought a box of Hornady sabots last year and one didn't have the primer or powder inside. I guess I should shoot them an e-mail.
