Canadian waters

A friend told me of Canadian "gun boats, machine guns mounted bow and stern, camouflaged," boarding an American Bass Boat in the lower river. The operator was handcuffed and taken aboard the police boat and his boat was taken back by the officials. Be careful out there.

Do not go into Canadian waters if you have a had a DUI or other major arrest record ,even if you call in and get a control number,they will give you the control number then they will come and get you and deport you back accross the border at the bridge.Also definately do not go into Canadian waters without calling in and getting the control number,if you have no prior record,they can fine you $10,000.00 and keep your boat & equipment and put it up for auction.Flare Gun's are firearm's in Canada,do not anchor in Canadian waters or land on Canadian land with one in your posession.

I have NEVER seen an armed Canadian "gun boat" and I've spent a lot of time around the niagara and fishing in Canada. That said, the Canadians changed their laws and they are taking "trespassing" very seriously. Follow the law and you'll be fine.

I called to cross 5 times during the Salmon Slam event, (Niagara river area) each time they were different in their questioning and call's ranged from 2 minutes to 15, One time they brought up an occurrence I had 14 years prior and I was denied, the very next day everything was ok and I was given permission to cross again. There are no set guidelines just an FYI, we will always be vulnerable

Homeland Security wanted to tighten up and secure the border. Guess what the Canadians did. Looks like we got what we asked for .Bad situations to be had crossing both sides of the line.

Their security is so refined as to just not having video cameras that can zoom in on long ranges but laser microphones that can listen in on your conversations in the boat there.

I'm gonna throw the BS flag now.

The Canadians are much more strict than they used to be. But "gun boats" and "laser microphones"???

To prove its BS I'm gonna run down to the Canadian line on Thursday to fish. I'm gonna put my tin foil hat on and talk to my clients all day in Arabic---casually mentioning things like "casino" and "Toronto" and "CN tower"----just to see if they're really paying attention. Smh

Im not up on the gun boats either. Been hangin around lewiston thirty years now. The canadians do have a white boat that looks like a fishing boat. It has come right up on us a couple times in the last year. They go out to 400 fow and come in when they decide to inspect someone.

I have an enhanced drivers license.  It has a chip in it with info.  The patrol boat will boogy very fast towards me and then make a turn to stop a ways from me.  If I was to guess, the boat reads my chip then decides what to do.  I was told long time ago about the listening.  Always careful on what we talk about going across the border.  Still have not seen the "boat" but will keep an eye out for it.

They are no more attentive to their jobs than US officials. Have a can of beer in your hand and see if the handcuffs come out. They may have a way of listening to your cell phone when you check in. I know they can ping your phone to check on your location.

If you carry around a TWIC Card it does have a chip Homeland Security can read from up to 10 miles away!

Got a budy that runs part of that twic program and I did years in a line of work where I had to get a retina scan just to get in to my office and I've never seen a chip that can get scanned from ten miles away!

   Our US Coast guard had a boat at the Buffalo Small boat harbor this past week end & it had a gun mounted on the bow.

Coast guard should not be confused with reserve. The "coast guard" would have a mounted gun, and all personnel would be armed. The reserve has no enforcement capabilities. They can and will board you for compliance, but have no law enforcement ability.

Two seasons ago, us coast guard had live fire drills out in open water. Those are not the boats that they use for enforcement. It was a large cutter with an m60 mounted upfont. It looked like a newer version of mchales pt 73.

Hookedup, Taken from Homeland Security Site:  The Transportation Security Administration's newly disclosed plan to begin implementation of the Transportation Workers Identification Credential without requiring card readers is running into opposition from a biometric industry representative.

"This is half a TWIC?a glorified Flash Pass," Walter Hamilton, chairman of the International Biometric Industry Association non-profit trade association, said today. "I'm concerned that the TWIC will not be used in the way it was intended."

The credential is a card with a microprocessor that uses radio frequency to convey information wirelessly to a card reader. The communication with the reader enables the card to be read and the information verified from great distance.

 

Also when you call in to Canadian Imigrations to get a control number,if your gps location is working on your cell phone they know if you have reached Canadian waters or not and sometimes will tell you to call back when you get into Canadian waters.

I have also seen the computer screen on one of the Homerland Security boats from a very close distance,every boat from Point Abino & Sturgeon Point to Niagara Falls were on the screen and they can determine how long it will take for you to travel in the direction your pointed to a land destination.Then in the Niagara River the camera's on shore can zoom in on you or satelite camera's can get down to face recognition.
