Hi all.

I just picked up a Sea Pro 190 WA that has a 1998 150 merc black max. The trim/tilt motor has an electrc issue lifting up. The switches (on the motor and control handle) both pick up the relay, but the electric motor works intermittently. Am I correct in thinking it is a loose wire between the relay and the lift motor or between the battery (source) and the relay? Is it more common in one than the other?

Thanks!

Sure seems a short's in order. Most intermittent type stuff is, within itself yelling there's a short here.

Normally it's the relay itself that's bad, there are two relays one for up & one for the down circuit. Switch them around & see if the problem goes to the down side.

I think RSF nailed it. It started doing it with the down direction. I was going to get the multimeter out and start check points, but now it looks like I'll be chasing a short. Yipee!

Thanks for the info!

When you say there's a short what do mean?

A wire is loose or rubbed through to cause it to redirect electricity.  Instead of completing to intended circuit it takes a "short"cut.
