anyone have any luck attaching small leaders with lead balls to a downrigger weight. the reason is to drag bottom with lead ball and not the rigger weight. i would like to try it and have heard good and bad. thanks in advance

I drilled a hole in the bottom fin of my cannon ball ( be careful it's tricky and you could break your wrist , drill bit digs in deep fast ) then put a screw -eye in , hooked some mono to a short peace of log chain , dropped that down , hit with cannon ball then brought it back up a bit and let the chain drag..........if it got hung up the mono would break ...........

thats great, it kicks up the mud and if anything is lost it is only a piece of chain. i bet it works well. thanks erabbit

If I was doing it again I would use a cordless drill , I put cheap snaps on it and doubled over 30# test mono......it works but a PITA to put over the side and bring back in....
