How do u pick who reels 1st fish?

We always draw short lengths of fishing line to set the order (like drawing straws---longest goes first).

This MUST be done or we have bad luck.

Any crazy or "old wives tale" ways to pick?

I'm generally the geezer on board, so I usually go by age starting with the youngest on board and I go last regardless.

Speed wins. Position helps . On a full day it comes down to whos payin attention. We get hours of free entertainment from this. Wouldnt dream of setting an order. Great side affect is the fake pop. It is an art. These are greaat moral and attitude changers and a big part of the total package.

Who ever beats me to the rod. A lot of times I'm forced to drive, but still beat my buddies to the rod.

Generally on my boat, there's only three of me:  Me, Myself and I.  So whoever is driving the boat gets to battle the first one.

I normally grab the rod make sure it's a good hook set and the drag is adjusted properly and hand it off. Whenever I have someone else on board I never reel in a fish unless we are on a double. To me I did my job setting the rods, depths, locations, speed etc. and when we hook up I consider it credit for me

Depends how big the fish is lol.. Yea I have more fun seeing rods pop and the smiles on friends faces when they put their first slob on the deck than reeling in myself. If I'm out with people that know what they're doing it's game on first to the rod reels it in lol.

We pick by who went fishing last unless my dad is on board then he goes first. If my son or daughter is on board they go first then my dad

I have a purple sack( Crown Royal Bag ) filled with 10 quarters numbered 0-9. Lowest draw goes first and so on .

Guests first, me last. My gear and decisions got the fish on the hook. Guests reel them in first.
