Still time to sign up!  Our next meeting is July 10th and you can register in person if you would like.  As noted below we will also have a guest speaker.

On Thursday July 10th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar by Roy Hryckowian on Lake Erie Walleye Techniques. Roy is the owner of NICK'S SPORTING GOODS in Buffalo and a very accomplished Walleye fisherman. Roy has been fishing Lake Erie Walleyes since the early 1970’s. He has many top ten finishes in walleye contests such as the Southtowns and Ameri-Can and won the CAN AM tournament. Roy will be explaining the techniques he uses to be consistently successful catching Walleye in Lake Erie. The Lake Erie Walleye fishery has been “on fire†again this year right off of the Buffalo / Hamburg shore line. Roy will be sharing his knowledge and answering questions throughout the Seminar.

LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information on the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario!

It's hard to believe the club tournaments and picnic is already over!  It looks like we picked the perfect couple of days with the weather and the arrival of some king salmon!!

It seemed like the majority of the fleet targeted fish in the 400+ FT range.  For us and a few other boats Michigan Stingers NBK's pulled in a mixed bag of both Kings and Steelhead.  Flasher fly bite also took it's share of fish.  We ran riggers from 40-80ft down and had some decent luck.  Dipsy did well from 150-250 with 180 on a 3 setting producing the larger fish.  Captain Volume spin doctor with purple dots worked well with an Atommik green hammer fly.

The Curt Memorial King Salmon Tournament proved to be a fun event for everyone with some great fish hitting the scales.  Several fish in the upper teens and low 20'lb range hit the scale! All I can say is it's about time they showed up!  Matt Dunn and the Slammin Salmon team continued their solid run in 2014 with another win - 23.62lb King!  2nd place was the Mean Machine team led by Kyle Hovak with a 21.02lb King and rounding out the top 3 was Kelly's Kings - led by Chris Bak with a solid 20.91lb King!  Great job everyone!

With a day under everyone's belt and a little chit chat amongst teams I think everyone was headed out to 400+ FOW or to their own secret spot!  East wind kicked up and made for some difficult conditions, but the fish were hungry as shown by some of the boxes!  Alan Sauerland and Team Instigator put the smack down on the field with a great box of fish!  3 fish weighing in at 71.31lbs won by almost 9lbs!  2nd place Frank Schmidhamer and team Reel Scream also put up a great box with 62.90lbs!  3rd place was the Hotline team led by David Peterson who's son Hunter stole the show with an amazing 28lb 15oz King - Hunter is currently 2nd in the LOC and 1st for the youth award!  This kid looks like he is going to be trouble on the tournament scene for years to come!  Rounding out the top 4 was team Mean Machine.

Following the Curt Tourney and Saturday King Salmon tourney we hit the cleaning station and gave the Food Bank of Western NY a little more than they bargained for!  We were able to fill their coolers and provide some families in the Newfane area with a great meal!  Thank you again for everyone who donated.  I spoke with the folks who took the fish and they will definitely be better prepared for next year.  They didn't know how good of fisherman everyone in the club was and was amazed with the amount of fish!

The Tournament Committee and I would like to thank everyone who participated in the events and the picnic!  We had a lot of fun and hope you did too!  We definitely have some take aways for next years event, but are quite confident it can only get better from here!  Thank you to everyone who helped out as well!  We really appreciated the support! More pics of the event will be loaded later in the week - I wanted to get something posted!
