Suggestion for a marine radio

Need to replace my radio. Any good suggestions for a make, model or function?

Id like to be able to scan channels. Other than that, not sure what makes one radio better than another. Power probably comes into the decision.

Anyhow if you have advice, would like to hear any suggestions. Thanks in advanced guys

I'm not sure if the Rescue 21 system is operational on LO yet, but I'm considering a DSC or Digital Selective Calling VHF Radio.

This is what I would recommend, has built in GPS for simple distress position. No need to connect it to a separate GPS to get position data.

Agree with John. After getting an earful one day in a good way about not having one up on the big O I bought one with a rebate. They still may have the rebate going.

Jeff - John's suggestion is the one I've been looking at too and apparently getting a good properly installed antennae is also important. I'm planning to use my hand held as just a backup.

Hey guys. Appreciate the quick replies and suggestions. Found an older thread suggesting the gx1700 so everything is pointing toward this type of device.

My old radio never scanned so i never really used it. What channels do most guys use on lake o? 72?
