2 color core question

Running leadcore off a planer board line, is the conventional wisdom to attach the release after the leadcore meets the backing or do you let out a lot of backing? Curious on how others do it.

Depends on how deep I want a a rig to run. I attach the board right at the backing ifin I want it down 10-12 feet. I let out more if I want it deeper. Yesterday, I added a 3oz divebomb then 50 feet to the board to get it down about 25-30 feet.

A 2 color lead core is only going to go down 10-15' on its own no matter how far you let it back.
