On some units you have to go way into the menu options to activate it. I had to really look for it (different model though)

Mine has SOG thru the GPS which came on automatically. I think I need to activate a gauge for onscreen display of SOW... Just haven't figured out how. I emailed lowrance...

Here is Lowrance's reply in case anyone else needs this info:

************

Transducer type:

You will need to select 5K.

SOG:

Press menu twice, enter on page, enter on edit data overlay, press menu, enter on add, enter on sonar, enter on water speed.

UPDATE---simple instructions and worked like a charm!!!!

Good to know. Does that mean that you switched from sog to sow or do you get them both now? I have always had a paddle wheel speed sensor, but lost it a couple years ago and can't find a replacement as the company no longer makes them. After some research I found the Airmar your talking about. I also have an hds7 gen2. How do you like the switch. I am seriously considering the same. It would be interesting to know how much of a difference it makes.

It shows them both, I haven't had it on the water yet, it will be interesting to compare...Also have a depth raider... So now 3 speeds to watch! :)

My older x71 used a paddlewheel and I always used that over my GPS speed.

Note, the p66 transducer got real good reviews. No complaints from me!

Thank you. I'd be interested to see what you think when you get it on the water. In particular, how much difference there is in the 2 different speedometers. I'm quite interested in getting the Airmar transducer. Especially if you find that its more accurate than sog.
