Maybe it's me but every time I use a jet diver (to 40 feet) for trout and salmon, they never work. Does anyone here have any luck with these things? I have tried different depth models and different colors but they just never work. Anyone?.

Yeah I sort of figured that out but it doesnt make sense why a fish wouldnt hit it if its down 40 feet. There is a 8 foot leader or so and it cant spook them anymore than various flashers, etc. would but the proofs in the pudding for me. Have any of you guys ever caught anything on one or does anyone even use them?

Used to run them off the small inline planers the 40' took a ton of steel

Seems like they would, I must be doing something wrong then. Tried them many times but nothing ever hits them.

I ran dipsies all last year and the only thing I caught were a handful of

Shakers. Had cannon mag

10 stx installed this year. Went out once 3 weeks ago for a 4 hour troll...poked 2 chinooks over twenty pounds! Luck of the draw? Not sure but have a lot of confidence in riggers right now. Now if the wind/weather would cooperate...I could try again. Good luck.

there is a time and a place for them!   they will catch fish when using the right model  for the thermocline.   right now the thermocline is deeper than 40 foot but if  the lake flips they can be really good!

Dipsys are a completely different presentation that sometimes won't catch anything, or will catch everything. You just never know.

Larson I am referring to jet divers not dipsies. 2 different items. I have no problem with dipsies (usually).

I know they are different. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents on divers...whether that were dipsies...pink ladies etc. I just haven't had much luck with them. I am a newbie and just started fishing salmon in lake O last year. I only ever catch shakers with the dipsies. You must have things dialed in and they work for you. Tried dipsies and torpedoes...nothing. Still learning and scratching my head. Good luck with the jet divers and let us know how you make out.

I like the idea of the Torpedo divers but not sure if they work. At that price they should. How do they work for you?

I wish I lived closer to the pond..this spring when I sold my boat and over 100 rods and all tackle (almost) I couldnt give up my dypsys ...1 for 1 they were the best catching rod and i can run em outa a row boat if needed... If they ain't working yer doing something wrong....Thought pink ladies were mini boards?

Maybe I'll try the dipsies again some day but just got 2 new cannon mag 10 stx riggers installed and I am currently learning how to use them. Have only been out once with them for a four hour troll and caught 2 fish over 20 lbs. dipsies have their place I'm sure...riggers seem easier.

Indeed both triggers and Dipseys can produce. Last trip out went 3 for 4 with all hits on Dipseys...couldn't move a DR rod. Other times the Dipseys might not move. Always good to have more than presentation in the water it seems.

Ray,

Luhr Jensen Pink Ladies are old school divers that have been around since the late 70's or early 80's.  They are a non directional diver that doesn't have a release clip, they run on a wire arm on the top of the diver so  that when deployed, the attachment clip slides up to the top of the wire arm and makes it dive, but when a fish hits, it slides down to the bottom of the arm causing the diver to plane up instead of dig.

Larson, what line are you running your divers on?  Mono doesn't work so good unless they are being used near the top of the water column on short leads.  The large diameter and stretch of mono doesn't allow them to get very deep and the stretch of mono makes them a pain to trip from the boat if there's more than 150 or so of line out.  Most of us are running dipsies on braid (power pro) or braided wire line or both.  I have 4 30 lb wire diver rods and 2 50 lb power pro diver rods set up.

Divers are an incredibly effective presentation that catches a ton of fish, especially later in the morning when the fish aren't as aggressive and the rigger bite starts to die off after the early morning bite.

I dont see a lot of anglers chiming in on how good jet divers are. Im sure they work at times but Im wondering if I should convert that rod to a dipsey now.

Hey Tim I am running 40lb mono. Guilty as charged! I have hear of braid being used but like I said, this whole lake O salmon game is new to me. Already bought rods/reels/lures/dodgers/spin doctors/riggers etc...guess I cheaped out on the most important part of the game. Do you use a mono backing or just load power pro???

My power pro dipseys have mono backing and 300 yards of 30# line. I do not use the power pro dipsey rods much. My wire line dipseys do most of the work. There is something about the wire that makes it much more productive than power pro.

I have caught plenty of walleye in lake Erie on jets. They are perfect as a planer board presentation. However the vast majority of the time they don't go deep enough to target salmon/trout in lake O. You can look up dive charts for them. Even the 40 jet (biggest one) does not reach 40 feet of depth.

No reason they won't work if the fish are in that target zone.  I have a bunch of the Walker 50 trip z divers but I never get them in the water.  I guess what it boils down to is there are so many ways to target that top 50 ft it just never seems necessary so mine never get wet.  One of these days though - I'm gonna make one swim and I am sure they will catch fish

Well put. I might add that I never use jets unless on a planer board ( they work well there bc they don't pull as hard as a dipsy, or release). If you are just pulling them straight behind the boat you should probably just use a small dipsy and gain the advantage of directional control.

Larson,

If you are setting up a new dipsy rod I would skip the braid and get 1000' of wire. You will be much happier. 1. you can get deeper with the wire. 2. You won't run into the problem of dealing with the fleas.  Fleas can ruin your day in a hurry.  If you have a size 30 reel, 1000' of wire will fill it up nicely.  You can get reasonably priced dipsy rods amost anywhere, put on a twili tip and your ready to go!

Run the Tru Trip 50 jets, you'll catch fish, you can get them down past 50 ft with not to much line out and they trip when you get even a small fish allowing it to come back up the surface.

I saw some guys fishing inside off Olcott with them and they caught more matures than we did.
