Just did a 7 day fish trip out of the Oak while tent camping at Lakeside State Park. Weather conditions were challenging. Lots of thunderstorms, some snotty seas, and water spouts to run from. For 3 nights local crop farmers shot cannons into the storms to prevent hail storms from ruining their crops. It sounded like artillery, and with the thunder and lightning, was quite an experience. Got to witness a section of lake ahead of a storm full of witcaps only in that section. Had wet feet for 3 days but otherwise stayed dry to damp.

25Jul. 7 for 7, Solo and 550 FOW was the best. Cline was 55ft. 1 major on Bullfrog Pro E and Atomik Ultra Green Glow, 2 teens on Bull and White Green dot SD with Big Weenies Rons morning wood moded with Atimik echip tandom harness. 4 steels , 2 on sea sick waddler on the center rigger dropped back in tail gunner position above and behind the F/Fs. 2 on cheaters FL spoon & Stinger stingray Orange TUX.post-147154-0-37211100-1407000345_thumb.jpgpost-147154-0-91052500-1407000443_thumb.jpg

26 Jul. 8 for 12, Solo 550 FOW best. 5 steel. 1 on Bullfrog F/F, 3 on cheated spoons. 2 FL spoon, 2 on stinger Orange TUX. 1 teen on Dipsey with NBK Pro e and Atomik fly. 1 skippy in 350 off the orange Tux. Doubled on dipsys on #2 setting with NBK F/Fs on both could only get one in. Now for the most memorable part of my trip. I got a screamer on the tail gunner Seasick waddler and this fish fought me for an hour. It made over 8 runs and would not give up. Even after 6 runs it jumped 3 ft in to the air and I could not believe it was that small of a fish. It just would not give up. I even took a chance and netted it while it was still nasty. I have had over 8 30lb+ fish in my boat and have been fishing Lake O since 99 and this was the best fight to date and she was only 22 lb. I catch very few kings on spoons and this fish was caught right in the front upper lip. Also it hit the high spoon in 56* temp. Maybe these factors contributed to its stamina.post-147154-0-80231000-1407000558_thumb.jpgpost-147154-0-85056500-1407000655_thumb.jpg

After loosing seasick waddler I ran another Green/black mag spoon that took 2 steel.post-147154-0-54389700-1407000771_thumb.jpgpost-147154-0-80495600-1407000816_thumb.jpgpost-147154-0-68095700-1407000867_thumb.jpgpost-147154-0-44737300-1407000911_thumb.jpg

You seem to have done better than most reporting on the boards. Nice job!

Steelhead were the savior on this trip and people not willing to run slider/cheaters would be missing out on a lot of fish. I run cheaters on Flasher fly lines and am willing to cut a tangled up cheater out in a second and tie a new one. Sometimes I won't put one on above a HOT F/F combo so as to get it back in the water quicker after a fish. We guessed that Steel to be 12-15 lb. we weighed one of the kept ones at 12 lb.Being willing to run straight out to blue water helped me as well. One morning solo I had 3 rods set in 550FOW before sun up. I just did the gas math for my trip. Used 17 gal. in the 88hp main motor and 11 gal. in the 7.5 Honda kicker in 6 days fishing. We had 2 dry run outings where we set up in 150FOW and ran back in to dodge weather.

Koot, Thanks for sharing info. Even when I'm fishing Solo, it's nice to have someone else on the water to compare notes! Next time around we shall have a beer!

Great report and pics!  Sounds like a great time despite the weather.
