I've been reading about the Goby invasion in the Great Lakes and was curious if they factored in as a significant food source for trout. I know that smallies will gobble them up and maybe a brown here and there but what are the toughts about gobies?

Here are my thoughts....

fish, like any other animal in the wild (deer, turkey, etc...) prefer certain food sources... when that food is abundant, they stick to those sources... when that food is not adundant, they will gravitate to other food sources as a means of survival or substaining themselves..

i think that you tend to see more in variety in a Brown Trout's belly because of their tolerance for warmer water and the vsariet of forage that resides there...

that is my 2 cents..

PMJasper they are already out. brown face with spots. white bellies. I didn't give them as much time in the water as I probably should have. Seems like I caught a few on them but I dont remember for sure, probably if they were working good I would have ran them more.

Who makes a Goby that is a large enough size to effectively troll? I know Yozuri makes a small ultralight version but does anyone make a larger lure?

As for me, I normally color my own lures to make different pattterns or designs, but shape is important too. Figured I might try a goby colored lure while I'm up at Sodus Point in May.
