2.2 is aweful fast for the old 88's, if thats the paper thin spoons, I was always told close to 1-1.3 with those

It is possible that you had the trigger too tight but also possible (given the wrapped leader) that somehow the leader wrapped up past the dipsey and prevented the arm from triggering at all

Lively1 you need to to take a day out with another fisherman and watch what they do.   I have been reading this thread and you need to see how someone else fishes.

He's not the only one! I learned what i have reading about it (dipseys) here, and with error and trials!

Old school I learned from Grandfather, Newer, just try. Costs a lot to buy a copper rig to not know what to do with it.

copper rig to me was a flat board with wire wound around it and pulled by hand.
