This is a picture of the exhaust from my 1989 Baha 310, 351 Ford, port side. We have checked compression, 125 all cylinders. No water in the oil or showing on the plugs. Engine is running good. Just wondering if anyone has seen this or have an idea of what the cause is.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level & condition? Could very well be the cooler leaking fluid into the cooling system & exiting out the exhaust. Some 351's have an engine oil cooler as well that could cause it.

check the temp between the two outlets. looks like a hot leak from the head into the manifold water. a clog could cause a hot spot in the head.

get a professional to look at it. compression is only in the cylinder, not the water jacket.

Both engines are running at normal temp according to the gauges.

The boat is for sale so I think it a good idea to update this post with what was wrong and how it was fixed. Suspect was a head gasket starting to leak exhaust into the water jacket. This may have been going on for some time and never noticed. We took the engine down to the short block , had the heads and risers pressure tested for leaks and the heads were milled. When putting the heads back on we found we were missing one of the short head bolts. We do not know if it was missing when we took the heads apart but could not find it when it went back together. Re-assembled the motor, problem solved!!

If it was left out during rebuild, it was intentional, shoody, and lame. Pretty hard to accidently leave one out being there is a progressive torque sequence involved when installing heads "Properly"! Unless it fell out and is in the boat. Short hjead bolts on Small Block Chevys are external, "Not inside valve cover"!
