Running wire on your rigger rods

I was sharing info with a guy that has been fishing lake O for prob 40 yrs. I was getting lots of fish on slider/cheaters and he asks me on the radio if I thought he could use sliders on his "WIRE". I rolled my eyes and thought Oh Jeez, This guy should know better as I thought he was talking Diver wire rods. Later that night at camp more details came out and he was running wire on his rigger rods and said that he did it to duplicate the "WIRE ON FIRE" signature associated with wire diver rods that causes more fish action. Most of the week my program out performed his, but the last day when the salmon finally stacked/ staged in 130-160FOW his program kicked my butt!. SO, does anyone else have some time spent running wire rigger rods? If so what's your take?

I feel that that the kinking associated with putting the wire into a release clip would be asking for snapped lines. Never heard of anyone using wire for downrigging.

Works great. No fear of breaking off fish on your divers cause all lines are wires. Run a 50ft mono leaders on the rigger rods.

As far as the release you need to use pinch pads.

I don't really see the purpose.  I always have a spread of wire line and rigger monos on - you never know what is working on any given day. To start a day with all wire lines is putting all your eggs in one basket.  I think that is a risky bet.

Probably rubber bands off a blacks release would work fine.

It would be fun to do with cowbells for lakers!

I don't get any fleas on my 30# big game mono main line for my rigger rods.  I get more fleas on the knots at my swivels on my wire line.
