Less than 14 feet does not need a title, but if it has a powersource it must have a transferable registration.

You should find out whether the seller has ever registered it and see if there are registration numbers on the boat. If it does not have an outboard on it , it does not need to be registered.

The boat has no numbers ...however I'd like to throw a motor on and make it a duck hunting boat.....so I'm hoping I can register with just a bill of sale ...or just register it as it was always mine

Any boat that has a motor of any kind needs to be registered. I have numbers on my Canoe. My Friend who I bought it from said he was out with it & had an elec trolling motor on it, law enforcement called him in from shore & told him that.Did not give him a ticket but said next time he would,

You may register a boat as untitled such as for an abandoned boat. You may receive a title after a year passes when no one claims it.

Just got off the phone with dmv/ parks and recreation.......all you would need is a MV 51b form and a bill of sale ......then I can register the boat that day and will obtain the necessary numbers to throw a motor on .....hopefully his will help anyone else needed to cross this bridge .....a bit of pain but the deal is to good to pass
