When a Fish Hawk X4D is reporting its "depth" Isn't it actually reporting its distance from the transducer? Therefore if it is attached to the downrigger weight and there is blowback, you are not getting the actual depth in the water column?

Not sure, but I know on the fish hawk TD it's based on water pressure. I assume the x4d is also based on water pressure for that very reason.

Gecko guy is right. Your downrigger counter tells you the distance from the rigger to the ball. The pressure gauge inside the fishhawk calculates the depth.
