I may be doing some hunting on Canandaigua lake this year and know that I may get into some redheads or bluebills. I was just wondering how they are to eat? If they are edible, how would you cook them, jerky? Any help is appreciated.

Redhead and bluebills are awesome to rat as they are..... it's the true "divers" like mmerge long tails and scoters that taste like dirt.... I've tried a lot of different ways and it always turns into dog food hahaha

Ok cool I wasn't sure. Never get them around the rivers and swamps I usually hunt. What's a long tail? Never heard of that

Long Tail is the new politically correct name for an Oldsquaw.....Sea duck . M8Ball is correct, the Bills and red Heads are pretty good. Cans are the best of all divers....I may do a few offshore hunts this year for sea ducks.... They are really fun to hunt, but unless you make em into sausage, they are pretty inedible. Good luck with the Divers....

Thanks fellas. I won't be getting into any sea ducks where I hunt, I fell better now knowing that those divers aren't bad. Still hard to beat a woodduck breast though!
