Thought I had a doe but upon finding the deer saw this mess.

That usually happens when a deer was hit by car injuries cause abnormal antler growth like you got there

Check the opposite side of the horn that's messed up usually that's the side that will be damaged

He also was missing his ear on the same side as the downward antler.

He may have been grabbed by the head there as a fawn by a coyote or something even a nasty raccoon . Injured very young. Well no worries now . good shoot in!!
