Islander 221v

Anyone out there know what is behind the aluminum on the side of the 221V underneath the windows? Is it wood? I want mount a fishing tower and I wonder if I can screw into it?

sylvan had wood but only about 7/16 th .I only had the drivers side apart and maybe that was just backup for the controls dont know about port..  tower sounds good on a calm day lots of torque on a bumpy day....just bring a 12ft stepladder with ya

No wood..... I put one on mine and put two by fours on the backside for support

Make 2 pairs of bases for each side. Use one set as the actual bases for the arch and use the other set under the decking as a backer plate. Use SS bolts, washers and nuts to sandwich the deck with the 2 plates. I did this with my Islander and have been very happy with the results. Did this in 2008 and have had no problems.

I know the decking has no wood...I was hoping to mount to the side under the window. I want to try and keep the deck free to walk on. I have to choose which mounts I want when I order. Also its a fishing - wake board tower designed by fiahonsports. Can't decide between deck or side mount

That space is going to be pretty tight either way you go. We can still get around ours even mounted to the deck, not sure how much space you will have for backer plates under the window. I made my backers as wide as I could and fairly long to spread out the load.
