We have been using the retrival system for a long time.

I use a metal ring about 1 1/4 diameter attached to a light nylon cord tied off to hardtop. Just remeber to feed tow line thru it before deploying boards. You can then pull in tow line to attach release

The ring is the same. I just like the dog clips because at days end, you pop them off, roll em up and stick em in compartment. Less moving parts when trailering.

I missed my own point. With the dog clip you can clip on easier if you do forget before deploying.
