Been contemplating the cheapest way to get the most functional rod holder setup on my boat.  I recently observed the Scotty Dual rod holder setup and am wondering if anyone has paired these with a canon manual down rigger on a swivel base,  Looks like I would just have to drill the correct bolt pattern and then could use them  I have my down riggers mounted on the rear corners which have single holders on them, my thought is that if I used a scotty dual holder under them I could run my long lines, lead cores or dipsies out of the scotty dual rod while running my down rigger and its holder as normal.  This way I would have no holes to drill.  I would use scotties because they are cheaper than the canon's.  Anyone tried it in this fashion?  Any thoughts on pro's and cons?  I would plan on adding aluminum plate for backing plates.
