Portable Fish Finder

Hey this post is for any Kayak/ Canoe/ small boaters.

I am looking to get a portable fish finder to put on a kayak, and maybe sometimes over on to a row boat.  I am looking for something in the pretty cheap range, the main function is to hopefully monitor bottom contour and get an accurate depth reading.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Obviously Lowrance, Garmin, and Humminbird all have similar offerings in the same price range, so I guess its more of a question on brand preference.  Any input would be greatly appreciated!!  Thanks!

You will need a small 12 volt battery with a charger similar to a motorcycle battery.

Check out the new Humminbird Helix units. VERY affordable Humminbird technology which can be portable. Guys are using it now on the ice.
