You get used to the line counters and I never heard of anyone not liking a high speed reel with mint drags. To each his own though.

You can get 1000 feet on a 30?

Yes a full 1000 ft plus you will need some backer to fill the spool to full capacity. 90 yards of 30# mono is perfect

Yes, no problem, that's what I have on all 4 of my wireline rods with the convector 30D reel. Plus you can get about 100 feet of braid backing. Just make sure you reel the wire in nice and slow and tight.

diawa saltist 30's! i used to use reels with 24" retrieve and hated to bring them in while pulling gear let alone with a fish. Stepped on a boat that had saltists on the dipseys and I fell in love. high speed retrieve is great for keeping tension and reeling down while working a fish. Torque is a non issue to me..., plenty of it. Drags our awesome! Granted the line counter is somewhat ill placed but as others have said you get used to it &/or just shift grip a couple inches higher. i use clarions on coppers and long cores. love them too. Good luck!

Another vote for saltist. They have the smoothest drag and the high gear ratio makes for an easy retrieve on those long diver trips with no one home.
