I'm new to fishing lake ontario and just wondered how long the fish are in shallow, and what lures produce the best. Any other information would be great.

Great advice. It will certainly shorten your learning curve to fish with a captain from your home port. There are a lot of captains willing to teach and also put some fish in the boat.

depends on water temp.but they should be in shallow through may.like what was stated above, sticks flat lined off boards, spoons on weighted lines or riggers.colors  can change daily,so try to have a good assortment of colors.there are alot of posts here on lou, about catching browns,so go back and do some reading.good luck.

Floating stick baits do not sink and snag in shallow water when you have to stop for any reason. Stay away from spoons. Long lines do not produce well in shallow water. Use side planers for success as your boat spooks the fish off to the side away from your boat and out where your planer boards are out there.

Your water temperature reading is very important as Browns congregate in shallow warmer water where the bait is. Look for streams, ditches, even sewage outfalls where the water is warmer. Hang around the warmest water.
