big jon half keel install

Saw a picture on this forum on the instalation of half keel big jon. Need some help to find directions on in stall. Thanks Happy Fishing all,

Go to the Big Jon web site>  https://www.bigjon.com/about-big-jon.php    and hit the SERVICE drop down box. Scroll down to OWNERS MANUAL and click. A .pdf will come up of all their equipment installations including the HALF WEIGHT KEEL. Page 14 is what you want.

Just for my own curiosity.  Is it really necessary to have weight on the second keel?  If so, why?

Makes them pull harder. Needed more if your pulling long coopers.

They pull out more to the side of the boat. They tend to drop back more without them.

Anyone happen to remember what size and length the bolts are that attach the mast to the mounting plate? I seem to have misplaced mine while moving to our new house.

Would putting more weight on the one you already have achieve the same thing or not?

It's not just the weight that makes them pull harder. The extra keel adds twice the surface area for resistance in the water. With the extra keel you can pull 3 lead cores or 2 coppers like they were deep divers. Run a lot tighter at slower speeds and while turning ad well. We'll worth the add!

The half keels became popular when people found out that 2 full keels with weights sink at slow speeds, so Big Jon started making special order half keels. The extra weight is not absolutely neccessary  but it does work better.
