Mercury Motor repair

Hello All; I need someone to look at my older 75hp Mercury outboard.  I am on the East side.  But can travel.  Mike's marine used to be nearby, but i think he might be closed.  I know you guys are on top of these things and have been helpful to me in the past.

The outboard is a 2000 and a 3 cylinder, it is belching smoke, running rough and where the gear shift shaft goes into the lower unit, water comes out? is it supposed to do that?

 Mine is older. 1990 75hp 3cyl. I have dealt with many problems over the years but I am sure yours is a lot different than mine.
