YUK!!!!!

We fished from, Olcott to the Bar,from 5/1 to 5/9,and we sucked at it.The weather left a lot to be desired, and the fishing was tough.

We got out every day,but a few of them were only for a couple of hours because of the good old northeast wind.

We fished mostly in the Wilson and eastern edge of the bar areas, but also in the Olcott area for a couple of the days.We had to work for every fish.We ended up with about twenty kings for the week, twelve of them were in the low teens, and the rest were runts. Also picked up a few small Coho and a couple of lakers in the low teens.

Almost all were rigger fish, the wire rods were pretty much dead, producing only a couple fish, and our lead core never fired at all.

Water temps were in the low to mid forties on the surface and the same down below.

There were a few guys who did good, but overall, the chatter on the radio, wasn't all that encouraging.

Oh well,we'll be back for a week at the end of may, hope it's better at that time.

Good luck to all of you guys out there.

Thanks for the report John. I was scheduled to head up there last night for a week but we decided to push it off until Wed.

You were not alone, John. I went to the Bar for the first time last year and had a GREAT week. 5-6 kings a day and built up to 23 fish (mostly kings) on Friday. This year was total opposite. SKUNKED, yes skunked, Sunday-Tuesday and then 3 cohos on a 1/2 day Wednesday. I would have been totally embarassed except the chatter was not good and the fish cleaning station had a lot of lakers and coho's at it. Very few kings caught, the ones that were had stomachs full of alewifes. It was very discouraging.

Throw in a midweek day off for a funeral and then blowing the lower unit on my trolling motor and I threw in the towel early and enjoyed the cottage, casino and other local favorite haunts for the last couple days. On the bright side, had a great cottage, a lot of laughs with other guys and Wilson is a great port to stay at. Saw a lot of familiar boats from the board and I am anxious to hear how they did.
