I launched at hemlock South end this morning, pretty calm for hemlock standards. Got some small Lakers then this came around. 29", put up a good fight so I decided to release it. I don't know if I made the right decision. It seemed perfectly healthy to me.. Really caught me off guard when I got it though that's for sure.

Looks like a viral infection to me. Lampreys aren't in Hemlock to my knowledge. I would have destroyed it rather than putting it back but also would have taken a pic and sent it to DEC. Something to think about if you see it again.

It just put up a really good fight in respect to its weight and fought hard when I put it back in the water. Gave no indication of illness. I was so torn as to what to do.

you might want to check out the attached article; those may be tumors. According to the article, tumors of the lateral line/lateral line syndrome were common (21% of mature and 8% of immature lake trout) in 4 fingerlakes (owasco, seneca, canandaigua, cayuga) between 1985-1994.
