I don't need it right now but might down the road. Never used it, so what size does it come in and how much to buy?

Thanks

Different boxes take different packing. As for amount you need to have pieces the circumfrence of your shaft. You buy a long piece and cut to desired length there will be several pieces stacked. When I changed mine I changhed them out of the water and just replaced with the same amount I removed. They make a neat tool for removing the old material. Worth the few $$ to buy. Google packing for stuffing boxes and you'll see a ton of info on the subject.

You need to measure the shaft size and also measure the inside diameter of the packing retaining nut. The difference between the two give ya the size packing. You then wrap a piece around and cut to length, usually 3 to 4 pieces and you must stagger the tag ends so they do not align or the water will leak. Remember even a dripless packing should have a drip .... don't wanna smoke a shaft.

Do not add a ring of packing, replace them all at once. The old packing is harder and will score the shaft.
