Looking at purchasing a new unit. wife is allowing a $500 limit. what would you guys be doing?

I have an Elite 7 hdi and I like it a lot, or you could get the 5 with chirp for the loot you have to spend. I'm a Lowrance guy so maybe others will have knowledge of other units in the $500,00 price range

Good combination outfits with a chart plotter can be had for that budget. Lowrance and Garmin have built in depth contours that make trolling easy.

I am partial to my Garmin Echomap 73dv.  2d sonar/down vu sonar/and chartplotter.  Internal GPS and I love the unit.  I was always a lowrance guy but change to this Garmin and I am not going to look back.  ANother great thing is how fast it acquires GPS.  They had it on sale at cabelas for 699 plus a 100 dollar rebate.  Good Deal.
