salt water / fresh water

What is th e diffrence between salt water outboard and fresh water out boards. Can you use a salt water out board in fresh water with out any mods to it?

There are a few differences between them, but nothing to hinder a saltwater unit being used in freshwater.

Differences are mainly in that a "saltwater" engine (ie. Johnson/Envinrude Oceanrunner Series) will be more corrosion resistent internally and externally. Saltwater outboards will have a direct hookup to allow easy freshwater flushing after use and they will completely tilt out of the water to limit corrosion exposure.
