I am in theprocess of re-rigging my dipseys and wondering thoughts on wire vs fire line.

I know wire goes deeper and catches fish- BUT I hate running it!!!

Thoughts?

We put the braid away come july. Flea magnet. If you only have 2 dipsey rods I would go w/ the wire for sure. You will be sorry by july if you don't.

Robby-

MANY bad experiences- usually from having "friends" on the boat that are in-experienced. Resulting in lost divers and loosing fish on the riggers becuase they can not get the wire cleared fast enough.

I run 30# fireline...no problems with fleas on the west end, but I mostly fish the Niagara water plume which is water from Erie. I would imagine on the east end of the lake with the prevailing SW winds, the fleas get pretty thick over there come summer. Try running the braid off the inside divers and the wire off planer boards to get them away from the downrig lines.

I am running Stren Superbraid with no problems. It has a plastic coating rather than the waxy coating that Power Pro has. The wax wears off and the line fuzzed up making it a flea magnet.

I run wire on one side and 50 lb power pro on the other. It is easier to clean flees from PP than wire, just slide the fleas into a ball/line spin the ball and pull and the PP will cut the fleas instantly.

Other advantages is you can use the PP rod off an outrigger or attach a quick release dipsy 50 ft up the line. I do not think I will ever buy wire again when I am done with the wire I have now, I will go to PP.

I do prefer PP to Fireline, stronger, coated, color retention.
