Ok, so I plan on running two copper rigs this year. I will primarily be fishing around Sodus but also Oswego. Question is, what's an ideal copper length for those two locations.

If you're going to have just 2 for that area go with a 400 and a 500ft section. Mark them every hundred ft with shrink tubing that way you can run them shorter if need be. However most of the time from july on you'll be running them completely out.

It really depends on the time of year you will be fishing.  Longer copper for later in the season and shorter for early.

I agree with all said above. I only have a 300 and 400 because I do not care for reeling it in and I am the only one on my boat that will reel it in. I do have them on board because they do catch fish when other presentations will not. I also like to have 800 feet of backing and this with 500 feet of copper is a very large and bulkie reel.
