6/13/15

Fished 100-300 fow, slow morning for us, ran a mix of riggers, 3&5 core, slide diver and dodger/peanut fly. KOS, wonderbread, red frog and 00 dodger with fly took hits. Finished 4 for 5, Skippy kings and steelheads, biggest 5#. We wanted to go deeper but fog moved in, worst we have ever fished in, took 1.5 hours to get back in, very sketchy.

6/14/15

Better bite for us, fished same water, 100-300 fow, 180-275 fow best, riggers with wonderbread and black/green spoons, slide diver with red frog and 00 dodger with peanut fly all worked. Finished 8 for 10, with 4 kings (nicest 2 were 12# and 15#) and 4 steelies (nicest 6#).

The 12# king had both of its gills worn down, exposing its gills, I think I read about this being caused by a deficiency in the water, has anyone else seen this?

Thanks

Tomy

Tom I believe Tom Allen posted something about it on The Lake Ontario Facebook page, they have seen a few salmon with the same issues up in Oswego and was contacting DEC I believe to see if it's the deficiency or something else.

Great job Tomy.

It was another day of a good bite out of Rochester but I'm glad you guys found the Kings.

WTG!!

That fog was thick at times.  I honked the horn every 30 seconds or so coming back in and moved slow as well.  Sounds like you had a nice Sunday.  Thanks for posting details.

I got one in Wilson a couple weeks ago with the exposed gills. I thought maybe it was a line injury from previously being caught...

Yep, I have caught a few this year with short gill plates.  Just tried to pull some info off the internet on this disorder.  One cause that pops up is sedimentation of the water at hatcheries?  I think there has been recent problems at Altmar with sediments getting into the tanks but there is very little information on the subject.  I have seen this in years past but very rare.

Does it state anything about survival rate? We release all our fish, it was really strong and healthy so it appeared the condition is not hurting it but it was still weird to see

Holy cow that fog was scary. We hit it about 930 heading into port over 100fow. Took us a while. Bet it took forever if I were way out. Yes. Lots of honking!
