Salmon marks

I heard from a charter captain last year that the circular yellow markings on king salmon meant that it was a Canadian stocked fish... Caught a decent one this weekend and everyone seemed to say that it was something different.. Can someone explain to me if this is accurate or not.

That has been a rumor for many years, butI dont think it was ever substantiated. I have always felt it had to do with the body changes mature Salmon go through. It is the very beginning of the color change, and is not unlike a sun spot or freckle.

I was standing in front of the mirror after a shower this morning and I noticed a yellow spot near my navel........
