A question on technique. Trolling vs. Gillnet.

Hello all.

I am very new to this. I have been given the option to experience salmon fishing just North of the Wrangell mountains. I have my choice.... gillnet with an established company or troll with friends. The target is Sockeye/Coho. I have 24 hours to make a decision and would really appreciate any input you have to offer and if you have the time, why. I am new to this and I think I only want to do it once but if I do it once I want to do it right. I have been told by friends that I am lying to myself, there is no such thing as 'once' when harvesting salmon. If you have the time or interest, please answer. I appreciate your time, effort, advice and enthusiasm.

First - Welcome to the board.

Second - gillnet? Rumor has it that the last guy who mentioned participating with those "people" (censors at it again...) was publiclly flogged. Why? - You gotta be kidding. Only "people" (censors at it again...) would enjoy wiping out a population of gamefish and ruining it for sportsmen, with those things.

Hopefully your conscience will guide you towards a sportsman's choice.
